Biography

May D, real name, Akinmayokun Awodumila, is a Nigerian singer, dancer, and songwriter.

He was born on the 28th of December, 1984, in Lagos, Nigeria, into a family of seven.

He was formally signed to the R&B duo P-Square record label “Square Records” before launching his record outfit, Confam Entertainment.

Education

May D has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Lagos(Unilag).

Career

May D became one of Nigeria’s most promising music youngsters in 2011 when he met with the hottest Nigerian music duo.

He was signed to their record label, Square Records, on May 13, 2011, and released his debut single, “SoundTrack,” the same year.

The music star has some hit tracks to his name, which were the rave of the moment at the time of their release. Some of these include Sureboy, Ile Ijo, Gat Me High, and So Many Tinz.

May D announced his departure from the music label after a misunderstanding in 2012. However, one of his videos, released under the record label and recording about 10 million views on YouTube, got deleted by the record label. Additionally, his YouTube account, Iroking, got disabled.

After his departure, he launched his independent music outfit, Confam Entertainment. 

In 2020, he announced on his Twitter handle that he had signed a record deal with Davido’s DMW.

So far, May D has two albums to his name, and he has also had the opportunity to perform at notable events like the MTV White Christmas Party and Star Music Trek, amongst others.

He has also had the opportunity to collaborate with top music stars like PSquare, Wizkid, and Davido, amongst others.

In 2022, the music star dropped two singles to his name – Ole and Life

Marriage

May D was formerly married to Adebola Olowoporoku, and their marriage was blessed with a son before their divorce.

The music star is reportedly dating Carolina Wassmuth, a Swedish woman, after the divorce.

Net worth

Controversy

May D was caught in a messy controversy when his ex-wife accused him of abusing her. His ex-wife, Debola, emailed Linda Ikeji to report the case.

However, the music star refuted the claim.

On the 14th of September 2022, May D resurfaced during an online debate about who was the first Nigerian artist to bring the Ampiano music genre to the country.

In a series of tweets, May D claims he brought the genre and should be considered the pioneer and not any other Nigerian musician.
