Alex Iwobi’s full name is Alexander Chuka Iwobi. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria on 3 May 1996.

At the age of four, Alex Iwobi moved to England, United Kingdom and spent most of his early life at Newham, London.

His maternal uncle is Super Eagles legend, Jay-Jay Okocha.

He began his football career at Arsenal FC in 2004 while still in Primary School. He made 149 appearances for the club and scored 15 goals, and winning the FA Cup in 2017, he also scored in the 2019 UEFA Europa League Final. In August 2019, for an initial £28 million fee, he transferred from Arsenal FC to Everton FC.

Presently (as at 2022), Iwobi plays as a winger/midfielder for Premier League club Everton and the Nigeria national team.

National team

Iwobi represented England up to under-18 level. In October 2015, he made his senior debut for Nigeria and was part of squad at the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

He made his senior international debut for Nigeria in October 2015, and was part of their squads at the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and 2021, finishing third at the 2019 tournament.

Life in Arsenal and Everton transfer

On 27 October 2015, Iwobi made his first-team debut for Arsenal, starting in a 3–0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Round of 16 of the League Cup.

Four days later, he made his Premier League debut in a 3–0 win against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, as a stoppage-time substitute for Mesut Özil.

In the 85th minute, Iwobi made his Champions League debut as a substitute in a 5–1 defeat against Bayern Munich.

Iwobi started in the first team for the 2015–16 FA Cup 3rd and 4th round home wins against Sunderland and Burnley respectively.

In a 3–1 away defeat to Barcelona, Iwobi got his first Champions League start.

Iwobi went on to score two goals in his first two Premier League starts in wins against Everton, and Watford, respectively.

On 8 August 2019, Iwobi signed a five-year contract with Everton. According to the BBC, Arsenal received a fee of an initial £28 million, rising to £34 million with potential add-ons.

Romantic relationship

Alex Iwobi is not married but was in a romantic relationship with Clarisse Juliette, model and blogger, who is half French and half Guyanese. They started dating in 2013 and ended the relationship in 2017.
