Biography

His imperial majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; (?jájá II) was born on 17 October 1974. 

He is the third of seven children of Prince John Oluropo Ogunwusi and Princess Margaret Wuraola Sidikatu Abegbe Ogunwusi.

Adeyeye, on October 26th, 2015, emerged victorious out of 21 contenders for the stool.

He was crowned as the 51st Ooni on the 7 December 2015 at Enuwa Square, Ile-Ife. Adeyeye is from the royal House of Giesi of the Oranmiyan Dynasty.

It was reported that his birth was predicted years before he was born. Hence, earning him the name Enitan (a child of history).

Education

Oba Adeyeye attended Subuola Memorial Nursery and Primary School in Ibadan before proceeding to Layola College in Ibadan between 1985 and 1991 and later to St Peter’s Secondary School, Ile Ife, Osun State.

The monarch had his tertiary education at The Polytechnic of Ibadan, where he studied accountancy.

Professional Career

Adeyeye is a chartered accountant. 

He is also an associate accounting technician. 

Oba Ogunwusi is a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and the Global Real Estate Institute.

Achievements

After his coronation, Ooni Ogunwusi set the pace for a new era in the history of Yoruba by meeting the Alaafin of Oyo, the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, to settle the generational discord between the two thrones. A discord that has jinxed both thrones for decades.

Oba Adeyeye was actively involved in the establishment of Nigeria’s largest lead and aluminium recycling factory in Ota, Ogun State by the National Steel Company of India.

He is known as a staunch philanthropist dedicated to humanitarianism.

Youth and women empowerment programs have been initiated by the monarch to touch the lives of people in the society. 

As a lover of tourism, he’s been able to transform the ancient city of Ile-Ife into a tourist zone, which it’s supposed to be. He has successfully initiated changes which include redesign, re-construction, and beautification of the ancient city. 

Source of wealth

Aside from being a Chartered Accountant, Ooni Ogunwusi is a real estate magnate and a businessman. He’s into Engineering Procurement and Construction both in Nigeria and across the borders. He had a strong reputation in the commercial and career spheres prior to taking the kingly throne.

Prior to his appointment as the new Ooni of Ife, he served as the Managing Director of Howard Roark Gardens Limited, undertaking a multi-million naira Jacob Mews Estate project in Yaba and the Lakeview real estate development in Lekki.

Net worth

The monarch, according to reports is worth about $70 million (est. 35 billion NGN) earning him a place on the list of Nigeria’s richest kings.

The King is not left out of monarchs with fleets of exotic cars as his garage houses a Rolls-Royce Phantom model year 2011, a Mercedes Benz S550 and 2 Bentleys.

Marriage and children

Oba Enitan, over the years, has had a series of romances.

He was reported to have been married to Omolara Olatubosun, with whom he had his first child (Adeola Aanuolouwapo Ogunwusi) as a teenager in Ibadan.

In 2008, Ogunwusi married Adebukola Bombata, but the couple divorced in 2016.

From 2016 to 2017, he was married to Zaynab Otiti Obanor, from Edo State.

The King in October 2018 married Prophetess Morenike Naomi Oluwaseyi and the three-year marriage was blessed with a son, Tadenikawo.

At his birthday party in October 2021, he introduced Olori Ashley Afolashade to his guest as his wife.

Controversies

There’s a series of controversies surrounding the monarch. From his marriage to his business.

In December 2021, his wife, Morenike Naomi announced their separation on Instagram, stating that she would no longer be regarded as the wife of the Ooni.

His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self,” she said in her post

I, at this moment, announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as queen of Ile-Ife, but as the queen of the people and mother of my adorable prince.” she further stated.

But the palace debunked her story hours later.

In November 2021, Omolara, one of Ooni’s former wives accused the King of being an absentee father for the first year of their child’s existence.

Another of his marriages with Bombata reportedly crashed due to her inability to bear a son. 

In August 2017, his marriage to Zaynab Otiti Obanor crashed when she filed for a divorce.

The Monarch’s business has also not escaped the web of controversies.

In a detailed report the King’s company, Gran Imperio Group’s multi-million-naira Essential Homes scheme has been accused of executing the biggest fraud in Nigeria’s real estate history.

Another report has also linked the monarch to land grabbing alongside Late Buruji Kashamu. 

Honours and Awards

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, is a recipient of an honorary doctorate degree in Law from Igbinedion University in Public Administration and another from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he also presides as the Chancellor of the University.

He’s also honoured with the proclamation of the Town of Franklin on the 12th of June 2016 and also given the key to the County of Somerset, Franklin Township, New Jersey in the United States.
