Popular business mogul, Akanni Aluko, dies few days to 79th birthday

Renowned business mogul and philanthropist, Chief Akanni Aluko, was on Friday confirmed dead by his wife, Mrs Kofoworola Aluko in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Aluko died a few days before his 79 years birthday on July 22 during a protracted illness at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

He was the Publisher of the defunct Third Eye Newspapers.

Eminent personalities and scores of sympathisers thronged the Ibadan residence of the late business.

Among the early callers included Chief (Mrs) Mutiat Ladoja, the Agbaakin-Iyalode of Ibadanland; Mr Muyiwa Ige, former Commissioner for Lands in Osun; Chief Esho Martins and Bolanle Salami.

Others were the Archbishop of Ibadan Catholic Diocese, Arch. Gabriel Abegunrin and hosts of other sympathisers.

Ige, son of the late Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, described Aluko as a great man whose wonderful monthly text messages would be missed.

“A great man has transited to the great beyond. We will miss your wonderful monthly text messages.

“May God grant your soul sweet repose and may He comfort the rest of the family. Rest on baba daadaa. RIP Daddy,” Ige wrote in his condolence message at Aluko’s house.

Also, Salami described Aluko as, “a great and wonderful daddy, Heaven has gained a blessed and beautiful son in his death.”

Aluko died eight years after the death of his friend and confidant, late Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Arisekola-Alao.
