Who is Babatunde Raji Fashola?

Babatunde Raji Fashola is a Nigerian politician under the All Progressive Congress (APC) political party.

He is also a lawyer, and the former Governor of Lagos State, Nigeria.

Fashola served as the Governor of Lagos state twice and his tenure started from May 29, 2007, to May 29, 2015.

In 1987, he obtained his first degree in Law at the University of Benin, Nigeria, and was called to the Bar in November 1988.

Babatunde Fashola started his political career after practising his legal profession for a decade and a half.

He worked with different law firms headed by various people such as Ogundipe, Osakwe, Belgore, and Sogunde.

Fashola worked as the Chief of Staff and the Honorable Commissioner to another former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu before he was elected as the Governor of Lagos State on May 29, 2011.

 After the completion of his first tenure, he was re-elected as the governor of Lagos state on May 29, 2015.

In November 2015, he became the Minister of Work, Power, and Housing under the administration of Muhammad Buhari, and his tenure ended on May 28, 2019.

His currently assigned portfolio as a Minister is Works and Housing.

Controversy

There was a controversy that happened in 2020 between Babatunde Fashola and Naira Marley who is a Nigerian hip-hop artist.

The controversy occurred when the people were trying to link the singer’s misconduct to Babatunde Fashola.

Naira Marley held a concert during the pandemic despite the strict warning given by the Federal Government and this made people start blaming the airline for allowing him to fly down to the concert then also accused Babatunde Fashola of breaking the rules given by the Federal government by taking a flight but neglecting the fact that he didn’t take board a flight during the pandemic. He came to clarify the rumours and debunked the news that says he’s a Marlian.
