Who is Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan?

Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan is a professor and the Senate President of the 9th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was elected to the position in 2019, in a second attempt after initially failing in 2015 which saw the emergence of Bukola Saraki.

He is currently a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) political party and contested for its 2023 presidential primaries but was defeated by the party’s national leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan attended Sabon Gari primary school at Gashua and proceeded to obtain his O’level certificate from the Government Secondary school at Gashua in 1979.

Lawan enrolled in the University of Maiduguri where he obtained a degree in Geography in 1984. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Remote Sensing at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 1990.

After this, he earned a Doctorate in Remote Sensing at Cranfield University, the UK in 1966.
