1. VP: APC eyes Shettima, Lalong; Wike, Okowa battle in PDP [Vanguard Newspaper]

The races for the vice-presidential slots of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are taking definite shape.

In the APC, it was gathered that the front runners, as of last night, are Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State; his immediate predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima; Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State; and Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State. Read more.

2. South-East PDP demands Atiku’s VP slot, party dismisses Obi’s threat [Punch Newspaper]

The Peoples Democratic Party in the South-East is reaching out to the leadership of the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to ensure that the PDP standard-bearer picks his running mate from the zone.

It was gathered that the leadership of the party in the South-East argued that having failed to cede the presidential ticket to the zone, which had consistently supported the PDP since 1999, the only thing left for the party was to cede the vice-presidential slot to it.

Atiku had in May emerged the winner of the PDP presidential primary after defeating other aspirants including a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim and an ex-President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Sam Ohuabunwa. Read more.

3. Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the arrest, and probe of Burna Boy [NewsWireNGR]

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the arrest, and probe of the policemen attached to popular musician Burna Boy who was involved in a shooting at Club Cubana on Victoria Island.

The IGP in a statement through the Force PRO, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said “the Police personnel alleged and identified in the shooting incident at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, have been taken into custody and are being investigated for their involvement in the incident”. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on Monday issued new regulations for Internet platforms available in Nigeria.

A statement signed by NITDA spokesperson, Hadiza Umar, said the new code was designed to protect the “fundamental human rights of Nigerians and non-Nigerians living in the country as well as define guidelines for interacting on the digital ecosystem.” Read more.

Spokesperson of National Consultative Forum, Yinusa Tanko on Monday disclosed that there is an ongoing plan to merge the interests of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi and that of his counterpart in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Tanko, who made the disclosure in an interview on Arise TV, opined that the arrangement will help strengthen the national spread of both candidates and position them to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Read more.
