1. Presidential primary screening: APC questions Tinubu, Umahi, Bakare, others on foreign citizenship, consensus [Punch Newspaper]

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Screening Committee, which began sitting on Monday,  questioned the party’s presidential aspirants on 10 key issues including their dual citizenship status.

Some of the aspirants, who were screened by the Committee headed by a former National Chairman of the party,  the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said that the panel asked them if they would be ready to step down for the consensus candidate of the party. Read more.

2. PDP Presidential Ticket: Fellow southern govs betrayed us — Wike [Vanguard Newspaper]

Rivers State governor and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who came second at Saturday’s primaries, has accused Southern governors of betraying the power shift agreement.

Wike, who has vowed to remain in the party and support its 2023 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, disclosed that he almost scuttled the PDP primaries at a stage when the rule was breached but had to maintain his calmness. Read more.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has met with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State. 

Monday’s meeting was held at Wike’s residence in Abuja, hours after Atiku beat him to the party’s presidential ticket.

“In continuation of my commitment to bring everyone on board in ensuring that the @OfficialPDPNig stands as one united party, earlier today, I visited His Excellency Gov Nyseom Wike at his Abuja residence,” Atiku tweeted. “This is a continuous process.” Read more.

The presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, could have been his running. 

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, spoke on Monday following speculations that the-now presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) was set to become his running mate.

“Many people suggested that (for Obi to be his running mate). I believe it could have been possible if not because he joined another party and now he is already a candidate as we have seen from the news just now,” he said during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. “We look forward to seeing what happens in the next few days or weeks.” Read more.

5. APC described Wike’s loss as “a timely good riddance to the financial banditry in Rivers State” [NewsWireNGR]

The dramatic end to Governor Nyesom Wike’s presidential quest is prayer answered for unpaid workers, pensioners and the downtrodden in Rivers State, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the governor lost at the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday in Abuja, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chris Finebone, described Wike’s loss as “a timely good riddance to the financial banditry, resource haemorrhage and complete absence of governance in Rivers State.” Read more.
