1. Atiku’s candidacy: Pro-zoning forces angry, slam PDP, Tambuwal [Punch Newspaper]

Organisations clamouring for power shift to the South on Sunday expressed anger over the emergence of a former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the 2023 presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The groups and individuals, in separate interviews said Atiku’s emergence negated the zoning principle entrenched in the PDP constitution.

2. Thugs chase Akeredolu’s wife from APC primary venue [NewsWireNGR]

Thugs, yesterday, invaded the venue of the primary conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to elect a candidate for Imo east senatorial district.

Betty, wife of Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, who is one of the aspirants for the senatorial seat, was chased from the venue by the thugs.

Speaking with journalists at the Imo APC secretariat after security operatives brought the situation under control, Betty urged the national working committee (NWC) of the APC to reject any plan by the party in the state to present a consensus candidate for Imo east district. Read more.

3. Ebele Obiano has won Anambra North Senatorial ticket [NewsWireNGR]

The former First Lady of Anambra State, Ebele Obiano has won the North Senatorial ticket in the primary election.

Mrs Obiano won the race on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

She defeated the immediate past Chief of Staff to her husband, Mr Primus Odili, to clinch the Senatorial ticket which was held at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha. Read more.

4. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu warns APC against fielding a Southerner for the 2023 presidential race [NewsWireNGR]

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to avoid fielding a Southerner for the 2023 presidential race, saying it could lead the party into political obscurity. 

Kalu’s opinion on Sunday was hinged on the fact that main opposition – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), elected a Northeasterner in the person of Atiku Abubakar, to be its flagbearer in the 2023 presidential race.

The Senate Chief Whip in a statement congratulated the PDP for electing the former vice-president, he however, noted that the victory in the PDP presidential primary election meant that Nigerians have understood his political calculations about 2023. Read more.

5. PDP cancelled all primaries in Ebonyi State [NewsWireNGR]

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cancelled all primaries in Ebonyi State on Sunday.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba, says that the decision was made after extensive consultations and deliberations by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

“After very extensive consultations. deliberations and review of all issues, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the cancellation of all Party primaries in Ebonyi State. Read more.
