1. Tension in Ebonyi community as gunmen kill LG chairman’s family [NewsWireNGR]
Tension engulfed Ekpaomaka community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi on Wednesday as gunmen invaded the community, killed four persons and set a building ablaze.
Mr Steve Orogwu, Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Council told newsmen that the hoodlums attacked Ekpaomaka, his country home, killed his elder brother, two of his brother’s sons and a security guard.
He said the assailants also set his family house ablaze in the onslaught. Read more.
2. I’ve been a Liverpool FC fan from childhood, Nnamdi Kanu tells court [NewsWireNGR]
Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday, told a Federal High Court, Abuja that he has been a fan of Liverpool Football Club from childhood.
Kanu, who disclosed this when Justice Binta Nyako jokingly asked him his favourite football team, said Liverpool F.C. had been his club since he was seven.
The development occurred when Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, complained that the Department of State Services (DSS) had not been allowing him and other counsel enough time to meet with the IPOB leader whenever they visit him in detention. Read more.
3. Lagos bans ‘Okada’ Operation inIkeja, Surulere, Eto-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa [NewsWireNGR]
The Lagos State Government on Wednesday banned commercial motorcycles, also known as Okada, from operating in six local government areas of the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the ban during a meeting with police chiefs in the state, saying it is “total and indefinite”. The affected local councils are Ikeja, Surulere, Eto-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa, the governor said.
“After a critical review of our restriction on Okada activities in the first six local government areas where we restricted them on February 1, 2020, we have seen that the menace has not abated,” Sanwo-Olu was quoted as saying in a statement issued after the meeting. Read more.
4. Report: Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote broke [NewsWireNGR]
A new report claims that Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, does not have the kind of money needed to complete his refinery by 2023.
The report published by Fitch, the world’s biggest global rating agency, alleges that the Nigerian billionaire requires an additional $1.1 billion (900 billion) to complete the refinery but has invested all his cash and even borrowed to finance the refinery project.
According to the report, the Dangote refinery project is still on track to be completed by 2023 and requires an additional USD1.1 billion capex in 2022 to be partly funded by the new bond. Read more.
5. Nigeria’s accountant-general suspended over N80bn fraud [NewsWireNGR]
The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been suspended indefinitely over alleged N80 billion fraud.
He was suspended by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, on Wednesday.
In a letter dated May 18, 2022, the minister said the suspension “without pay” was to allow for “proper and unhindered investigation” in line with public service rules. Read more.

The Professor Yemi Osinbajo Campaign Organisation on Wednesday promised more than 7,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates across the nation “jobs and appointments” as reward if the vice president wins the 2023 presidential election.
Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari deployed to the office of the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, announced this to delegates in Minna, while wooing them to vote for Osinbajo during the party primary election. Read more.
7. EFCC arrests ex-NDDC MD, Nsima Ekere, over alleged N47bn loot [NewsWireNGR]
The Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arrested the former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Nsima Ekere for alleged diversion of funds to the tune of N47 billion through registered contractors of the agency.
According to the EFCC, Ekere allegedly received kickbacks from contractors between 2017 and 2019.
Nsima, 56, was the agency’s Managing Director between 2016 and 2018. Read more.
