1. Deborah: CAN, Plateau, Benue churches adamant, insist on Sunday protest [Punch Newspaper]

The Christian Association of Nigeria says it will go ahead with its nationwide protests against the lynching of Deborah Yakubu, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, who was stoned to death and burnt for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.

This is despite a ban on religious protests by Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; an appeal by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, and moves by some northern governors for CAN to shelve its planned protests.

2. You’re not doing enough to stop IPOB from inciting violence, Lai Mohammed tells Facebook [Vanguard Newspaper]

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has asked Facebook to prevent the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from using its platform to incite violence.

Speaking at a meeting with a team from Facebook in Abuja yesterday, Mohammed said people had been killed because of the group’s activities. Read more.

3. Nine bodies recovered at scene of Kano explosion – NEMA [NewsWireNGR]

At least nine people are confirmed to have died in an explosion in the Sabon Gari area of Kano state on Tuesday morning.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in a statement said nine corpses have been recovered from the scene of the explosion.

NEMA’s spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel, said the Director-General, Mustapha Habib, who visited the scene of the explosion, coordinated the rescue operations. Read more.

4. Oshiomhole accused Governor Fayemi of asking him (Oshiomhole) to rig an election in his favour [NewsWireNGR]

The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed allegations made against him by the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.

Oshiomhole had accused Governor Fayemi who is a presidential aspirant in the APC of asking him (Oshiomhole) to rig an election in his favour.

But Governor Fayemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, rubbished the allegation. Read more.

5. ASUU mocks Accountant-General after he was arrested for 80 billion naira fraud [NewsWireNGR]

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has called on the federal government to immediately discard the use of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) meant for the payment of federal workers’ salaries and return to a platform where corruption can be checked step-by-step.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, was arrested for N80bn alleged fraud while on his way to Kano on Monday. Read more.
