A 200- Level student of Home Economics at Shehu Shagari College of Education was yesterday, lynched by fellow students for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed.
The student, identified as Deborah Yakubu, allegedly shared the message that was deemed offensive in a school WhatsApp group.
In the voice note, which was in Hausa, she is heard shouting at her fellow students after they posted religious content on the WhatsApp group. She told them to stop making religious posts, adding that the group was created to share past questions and answers among themselves, and not for irrelevant broadcasts or content about the Islamic prophet.
The voice note was shared to a lot of Muslim students, who subsequently went to her hostel and dragged her out of her room before stoning and beating her to death. Her remains was thereafter set ablaze by the barbaric mob.
Meanwhile, the management has shut down the institution to avoid escalation of the situation.
The Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar III also condemned the extrajudicial killing of the student, calling on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to book.
