2023: Zamfara ex-Governor, Yerima, declares for presidency

A former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, has declared his intention to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary to emerge as the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 presidency.

In a tweet disclosing the development, Bashir Ahmad, the Special Assistant to President Muhamadu Buhari on New Media said Yerima revealed his intention after meeting with Buhari.

“Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, former Governor of Zamfara State has also declared his intention to join the race for the APC’s presidential ticket after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari today in Abuja,” Ahmad tweeted.

Yerima while addressing journalists said when elected President, he would focus on fighting insecurity, poverty alleviation and ignorance of the mind which many Nigerians are living with unknowingly.

The former governor, who is famous for introducing the Sharia legal system in his state, debunked claims that he was a religious extremist.

According to him, that perception people hold about him is one of the reasons he would work on the ignorance of Nigerians and give every citizen a sense of belonging.

While disclosing his plans to State House Correspondents, he noted that he had secured the consent of the President to run for the exalted office.

He is due to pick his expression of interest and nomination forms today.

In a similar development, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, on Friday declared his intention to contest the 2023 Presidential Election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Likewise, there are indications that the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has finally picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) forms to contest in the party’s primary for the presidency.

The number of presidential aspirants contesting on the platform of the APC is about 30.
