17 Oil Wells: Supreme Court rules in favour of Rivers, dismisses Imo’s counterclaim

The Supreme Court on Friday in Abuja has ruled in favour of Rivers state as the owner of 17 oil wells located in the territory of Rivers and Imo states.

In a landmark judgment prepared by Justice Heleen Ogunwumiju but delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court dismissed the counterclaim ownership put forward by the Imo State Government.

NewsWireNGR recalls the apex court had on February 7 this year fixed today after taking arguments from lawyers involved in the oil wells’ ownership tussle.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who led a panel of justices, fixed today for final decision after the adoption of final written addresses by the lawyers.

The matter is number ten on the cause list which has 21 appeals for judgments.

Top officials of Rivers State Government including two Commissioners were present in the court.
