The National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) condemned the recent display of Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign posters at the grand mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

NAHCON also warned ll politicians against engaging in any activities, including discussions and rallies that are detrimental to the sanctity of the Holy Mosque in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Commission, any form of politicking around the sacred Ka’aba in the Holy Land, which is a large cubic structure draped in a black cloth embroidered in gold with verses from the Quran, is an act of sacrilege.

This is coming after one Kaokab Ibraheem, a Tinubu supporter, brandished the All Progressive Congress (APC) national leader and presidential hopeful’s campaign posters during the lesser Hajj when a special Tawaf was held in Tinubu’s honour

In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the commission, Fatima Usara, on Thursday night, NAHCON said Ibraheem’s action was punishable in Islam.

“NAHCON leadership had observed with dismay the unfortunate trend where politicians displayed posters of their candidates in the grand mosque in Makkah.

“Kindly recall that the Saudi Arabian authorities are very strict on any form of politicking while in their land. Especially not in the Holy Ka’aba where devotees engage in solemn prayers.

“This action is tantamount to desecration of a religious sanctuary, which attracts penalties when apprehended. Hence, in the interest of the actors and Nigeria’s image, pilgrims are cautioned to desist from such illegal activities please.”
