1. APC, PDP PRESIDENTIAL SLOTS: Be fair, cede tickets to South – Clark, Southern govs insist [Vanguard Newspaper]

Southern governors, senators and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, yesterday, insisted that power must shift to the South, next year, to ensure equity, justice and fair play in the country.

The Southern governors urged the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to end the guessing game, tread the path of equity and zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the Southern part of Nigeria. Read more.

2. Dumping rotational presidency’ll cause crisis – Akeredolu, Senators [Punch Newspaper]

THE Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has insisted that the southern part of the country must produce the next president of the country.

3. 2023: Ekiti Governor Fayemi joins APC presidential race [NewsWireNGR]

Ekiti State Governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi will formally declare his intention to run for the position of President of the country on Wednesday in Abuja.

His Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, made this known in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday.

According to him, Wednesday’s declaration, tagged, ‘Unveiling My Nigeria Agenda’, would lay to rest speculations on whether Fayemi would run for the Presidency or not.

Oyebode said his principal had discussed his plan to run for the number one office with the President, Muhammadu Buhari, traditional rulers and political leaders across states in the Federation. Read more.

4. Fire guts INEC office in Zamfara [NewsWireNGR]

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says no causality was reported at the fire incident that gutted its office in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara.

The commission disclosed this in a statement by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye in Abuja on Tuesday.

Okoye said the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Zamfara, Prof. Sa’idu Ahmed, reported that INEC office in Kaura Namoda local government area was gutted by fire. Read more.

5. We don’t know why ASUU is on strike — Minister of State for Education [NewsWireNGR]

The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, has claimed its ministry does not know why the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) decided to go on strike.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Nwajiuba, stated the union lacked basic rights to dictate to the government how the salaries of its members who according to him were employees, should be paid by the government who is their employer.

Despite claiming he doesn’t know why the Union went on strike, the presidential aspirant said universities founded and funded by state governments have no business joining federal universities on strike in the ongoing strike. Read more.

6. Gruesome murder of 2 soldiers by IPOB/ESN, callous, despicable — Army [NewsWireNGR]

The Nigerian Army says the gruesome murder of two soldiers by members of the proscribed  Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN), is callous and despicable.

Reports of the killing of Audu Linus, a retired Master Warrant Officer and Gloria Matthew, a private soldier by IPOB/ESN had surfaced on social media.

The report had it that members of IPOB/ESN claimed responsibility for the murder of the two soldiers, who were said to be travelling to Imo for their traditional marriage before their unfortunate demise. Read more.
