1. Storm over plot to draft Jonathan as APC flag-bearer [Vanguard Newspaper]

There is a storm in the polity over subterranean plots by some political hawks in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to woo ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to the party and get him fielded as the party’s 2023 presidential standard-bearer.

The move is facing stiff resistance from some presidential aspirants of the party, who described it as insensitive to the feelings of those who had been labouring to make APC a household name.

2. Presidency: Obi’s camp protests as PDP dumps zoning, begins screening Friday [Punch Newspaper]

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party said on Tuesday that all those who had purchased the presidential forms were free to contest its presidential ticket regardless of zones.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, said this while responding to questions on the zoning controversy raging in the party.

3. I will withdraw from presidential race if parties fail to zone ticket — Orji Kalu [NewsWireNGR]

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu says he may withdraw from contesting to be the president of Nigeria if major political parties don’t zone their tickets to the South-East.

Kalu in a statement he issued on Tuesday in Abuja, however, said that it was his desire and intention to run for the Presidency.

4. 36 State Governors pray court to stop $418m Paris Club debt deductions [NewsWireNGR]

The 36 State Governors have prayed a Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain the Federal Government from approving the deduction of any money accruing to the states from the Federation Account for the payment of 418 million dollars judgment debt.

The Attorneys-General of the 36 states made this prayer known in a motion on notice marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1313/2021 dated and filed on March 28 before Justice Inyang Ekwo. Read more.

5. Governor Ayade vows to replicate what he did in Cross River, joins 2023 Presidential Race [NewsWireNGR]

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has joined the race for the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election.

The governor, who met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, said he informed the president of his ambition. Read more.

6. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State disowns former chief of staff N160m  [NewsWireNGR]

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has rejected a request by his former Chief of Staff, Terwase Orbunde, for the reimbursement of N160m Orbunde claims to have spent on Ortom’s governorship campaign in 2014.

In a letter titled, ‘Appeal for Reimbursement’ addressed to the governor dated April 16, 2021, Orbunde said he sold his house located at Plot 715 Wuye BO3 District, Abuja on August 4, 2014, for N160m and invested the fund in Ortom’s campaign. Read more.
