Music manager, Ubi Franklin has narrated how his friend’s 10-year-old daughter was raped during a school competition in Dubai and later suspended from the school and the school involved is Crisland.

Chrisland Schools is a conglomerate of schools providing education for Nursery, Primary and Secondary School students from across Nigeria, but with facilities situated in Lagos and Abuja.

Franklin on his Twitter page @ubifranklin1 revealed that the parents found out after another parent in the school alerted them. The girl was selected to represent her school at the World School Games in Dubai when the incident happened; he said.

Franklin said, “Just got off the phone with a friend of mine, his 10-year-old daughter was selected to represent her school at the World School Games in Dubai. His daughter was raped by fellow students, video tapped and posted on Instagram, and the school concealed it for a month”.

Ubi added, “He found out (referring to his friend) on his own when another parent called his wife and showed his wife the video of his 10-year-old daughter being circulated on Instagram.

“I have spent the last one hour listening to confessional statements by some teachers, and I am begging.

“UPDATE ON MY PREVIOUS POST”, Ubi continued, “This school took the girl from her parents that they wanted to conduct a Covid test and the school rather took the girl for a pregnancy test. As we speak, the girl has been SUSPENDED from the school. Some things don’t make sense at all”.

Shortly after Mr Franklin’s post, Nigerians on social media started name dropping Crisland school Lagos, then also followed a media statement from Crisland explaining what had transpired.

Pupils from the school were in Dubai in March to Participate in the World School Games between March 10- 13, 2022. But in the letter dated, April 14,2022, the letter to the girls parents obtained by NewsWireNGR, authorities alledge that the girl took part in what was refereed to as “improper behavior”.

According to the school located in Victoria Island Lagos, she took part in a truth or dare game and “and consequently, (name redacted) is hereby placed on indefinite suspension until you as the parent ensure that she is punished, adequately counselled and rehabilitated”.

In the seven paragraph letter signed by the PrIncipal Mrs Azike, it says “In line with our core values centered on discipline, Crisland schools have zero tolerance for any improper behavor or misconduct,”.

With no mention of rape, the school added that other students who took part in the games had been suspended and that the girl and her parents did not take cooporate in the investigation.

In a video shared by Ubi Franklin on Instagram, the mother of the pupil narrates her encounter with the school, she said the school had contacted her to inform her about a kissing game involving her daughter under their care. She begged and appealed to Nigerians to intervain as the institution had been interrogating her daughter without her Knowledge.

“They’ve been threatening my daughter, that if she speaks out they’re going to kill her, that it is a men’s world, that she should keep quiet that she shouldn’t disclose to me”, the mother said the daughter had been “dying in silence”.

“They took her to go and do pregnancy test without me knowing”, she added.

NewsWireNGR will be following the brewing scandal and updates our readers, but we understand this is not the first time this same school has been involved in allegations of rape, the last time it involved a teacher who had defiled a minor, and this is also not the first time an elite Lagos school is in the news over the care of students under her watch.

In 2019, Adegboyega Adenekan, 47, Chrisland  School, Lekki, Lagos supervisor was  jailed 60 years for defiling a 2-year-old child. Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court  handed down the sentence, convicting  Adenekan on a count charge of defilement.

She held that evidence before the court showed that the supervisor was guilty as charged. Adenekan was a supervisor  at the Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City, Lagos State.

He pleaded not guilty on arraignment on Jan. 29, 2018.

“This defendant is conscienceless, wicked, an animal, and not fit to walk on the streets.

“I hereby sentence Adegboyega Adenekan to 60 years’ imprisonment. This is the sentence of the court,” the judge held.

Nwaka said that schools  should not only be interested in economic gain but the welfare of pupils.

“Schools should not cover up teachers who sexually abuse children.

“Parents should not be carried away by  aesthetics of schools. This case may just be the tip of the iceberg as a lot of our children are suffering in silence.

“Parents should be bold enough to confront teachers and school management because a lot of our children are suffering in silence.

“I advise or recommend that the education and social welfare ministry workers should visit schools randomly to give them a check.”

Seven  witnesses, including the pupil and her mother, testified for the prosecution, which closed its case on March 14.

Defence called five witnesses.

Sylvester Oromoni also died in controversial circumstances at Bowen, a development that led to a Nationwide outcry and Scandal.
