A thrift collector, Laila Ahmad, has sued one Aminu Hassan before a Shari’a court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, for alleged failure to pay N250,000 contribution.

The complainant told the court that in June 2021, she advertised on her social media handle, a thrift and savings platform where one could contribute N50,000 for 10 months, along with nine others, and get N500,000.

“Hassan saw my status and responded, showing interest.

“He appealed to be the first to benefit from the contribution, saying he would use the money to start a business.

“I told him he would be the second to benefit and gave him N350,000 and deducted N5,000 service fee.

He paid back only N100,000 and refused to pay N250,000,” she said.

The plaintiff said that efforts made by her to retrieve the money proved abortive, alleging that the defendant refused to pick calls and blocked her on all social media platforms.

She prayed the court to compel the defendant to pay the money.

Responding, the defendant did not deny the allegation.

He said that he intended to pay the debt but had financial crisis.

The judge adjourned the case until May 12 for the defendant to raise the money and bring it to court.
