A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, says the recent attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train is an incident that requires serious reflection.

He spoke on Tuesday at what should have been a colloquium organised in honour of his 70th birthday.

“I have just been informed of a very sad incident in our country, that over 60 people and many more were killed and bombed on the train between Kaduna and Abuja,” he said.

“That is a very serious incident about the security of lives in this country and it calls for a very serious, sober reflection.

“To me, to be here celebrating, dancing and enjoying, doesn’t show enough concern of a statesman as a senior citizen of this country.”

On Monday night, gunmen attacked the train, which was conveying passengers from Abuja and was a short distance from its destination.

Exact number of casualties is not yet known, Chinelo Megafo, a dental surgeon, has been confirmed as one of those killed in the attack.

The event was, however, cancelled over the attack.

He asked the attendees to “go home and pray” for the victims of the attack.

“To me, to be here celebrating, dancing and enjoying myself doesn’t so show enough concern as a senior citizen.

“I will urge the two clergies present to continue to pray and every one of you to go home and pray. This event should not be holding.

“I have conferred with the people around me and they have agreed with me, and as a very highly committed democrat, I have [agreed with] their suggestions that this event be cancelled.

“We pray for those souls that have departed prematurely, we pray that Almighty God helps us win the war [against] evil and set Nigeria on the right path.”

Meanwhile, terrorists have attacked Gidan train Station along the Abuja-Kaduna rail track.

Sources say the terrorists may have planted IEDs on the tracks forcing the train heading to Abuja from Kaduna to a stop.

This is the second attack within 24 hours along the same axis.

At least seven persons were killed when terrorists attacked a train at Dutse village on Monday.
