The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Farouk Yahaya are on their way to Kaduna to inspect the scene of Monday night’s explosion which derailed a train along the Abuja – Kaduna corridor.

Bandits who planted explosives on the rail track had encircled the train after the explosion and opened fire at will, killing a yet-to-be confirmed number of people while many sustained gunshot wounds and dozens abducted.

The Kaduna State Government has confirmed the terrorists’ attack on a passenger train bound for the State.

Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, said the military rescued the Kaduna-bound train passengers trapped by terrorists on Monday night.

He disclosed that the information about the rescue mission was conveyed to him by security operatives.

The Commissioner disclosed this in a statement he issued.

Aruwan said the government received multiple reports of an attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train service around Kateri-Rijana area.

He said that upon receipt of the report, relevant agencies were contacted and personnel were deployed to the area to secure the passengers on board.

Aruwan said efforts were ongoing to move injured passengers to hospitals for urgent medical attention.

He said the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who had been in constant touch with security forces, commended them for their prompt response.

Gunmen believed to be bandits had detonated a bomb on the rail track of the Abuja-Kaduna train and successfully immobilized it at a point between Katari and Rijana.
