1. Gloves off: Obaseki, Wike fight dirty over party issues [Vanguard Newspaper]

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and his counterpart in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, both of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are currently at daggers drawn over purported verbal attacks on the deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu by the latter for threatening to quit the party if their supporters were not integrated fully into the PDP.

2. Blackout as national grid collapses, minister summons emergency meeting [Punch Newspaper]

Power generation on the national grid collapsed to zero megawatts around 10.40am on Monday, leading to widespread blackout across the country.

Different power distribution companies alerted their customers about the grid collapse, stressing that it was what led to the outages.

Enugu Disco, for instance, described it as a general system collapse, adding that the plunge in power generation on the grid caused a blackout in the five states under its franchise area.

3. FG reacts to ASUU’s 2-month extension of strike [NewsWireNGR]

As the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU ) rolls over its strike action to two months, the Federal Government has reacted to this extension saying it has met all the demands of the union.

The Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba reacted to the declaration of the rollover in an interview with newsmen at the end of the commemoration of the 2022 Commonwealth Celebration in Abuja on Monday. Read more.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has defended his deputy, Phili Shaibu, following an outburst on him by the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike.

Obaseki in a statement titled, ‘Obaseki to Wike: PDP is not your personal property, Edo cannot be procured’, warned the Rivers governor not to cause disruption in PDP. Read more.

5. FG orders fortification of rice to reduce hidden hunger in country [NewsWireNGR]

The Federal Government says it has included rice on the list of foods that must be fortified with micronutrients to reduce the rate of hidden hunger in the country. 

Mr John Uruakpa, Deputy Director and Head of the MicroNutrition Deficiency Unit, Federal Ministry of Health, made this known on Monday in Lagos. 

He said this during the launch of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) Strategy. Read more.

6. Blackout in Nigeria as National grid collapses [NewsWireNGR]

The national grid, on Monday, experienced its second collapse in 2022 resulting in blackout in at least eight Nigerian states.

The states affected include Lagos, Enugu, Kaduna, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States, among others.

Confirming the development in a text message to its customers, The Eko Electricity Distribution Company, said that the system collapse occurred on the national grid at 10:40 am. Read more.
