‘Who did this to Nigeria?’: Social media reacts as Headies move venue to USA

The 15th edition of the annual awards show was announced on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at a Headies event, ‘The Big Announcement’ where it was revealed the location of the show this year is the Cobbs Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, U.S.A.

Nigerian Twitter users are reacting to news of the location of the 15th edition of the annual Nigerian Headies Awards.

Daniel Regha a Twitter influencer, reputed for commenting on virtually all trending posts, opined that moving the show to another continent is belittling Nigeria, and the organizers are seeking validation by doing this.

His tweet reads “The Headies organisers deciding to hold the 2022 awards in USA actually makes no sense to me; Why move the award ceremony to another continent entirely?”

“It seems like the organisers are seeking validation which is belittling. We underrate our nation (Nigeria) & Africa a lot.”

Another user replied “Moving headies to USA is like saying we have been dumb all these years. Can we for once see that we got it and need no validation?”

In response to Daniel Regha’s tweet, another user points out it isn’t the first time an event is being moved off continent.

“We are also part of the problems. African Union will have African summits in Brussels, FG will sign bills in UK, First Lady will celebrate birthday in Dubai, Now headies is heading for the US.”

“The entire country is in disarray. Who did this to Nigeria?” He wrote
