Nigeria’s minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, says it is “elitist” to assume that the N5,000 monthly national cash transfer to vulnerable households is insignificant.

4. ‘5 victims of Ikoyi building collapse yet to be identified’ [NewsWireNGR]

A pathologist, Dr Sokunle Soyemi, has revealed that five deceased victims of the 21-storey building, which collapsed on November 1, 2021, at Gerard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, are yet to be identified.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Soyemi, who is the acting Chief Medical Examiner of Lagos State, said this while testifying at an Ikeja Coroner’s Court on Thursday. Read more.

5. 63 Northerners found hidden in trailer among rams, motorcycles [NewsWireNGR]

Ondo State Amotekun has arrested 63 Northerners hidden in a trailer loaded with rams and motorcycles, at Iju, in Akure North council area of the state.

The state’s Amotekun Commander, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, said they were discovered during a search of the trailer and 10 of the motorcycles were registered with Yoruba names.

Speaking to journalists, the suspects claimed to be coming from Gombe State and travelling to Lagos. Read more.

6. Speaker,Gbajabiamila denies probing Rauf Aregbesola over Tinubu [NewsWireNGR]

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila has insisted that the resolution to investigate the state of Nigerian prisons under the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola has nothing to do with the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu.

He was reacting to a matter of privilege raised by a representative Onofiok Luke who was furious with reports suggesting that the House’s resolution to investigate the state of the Nigerian Correctional Service was a political move by the Speaker against the interior minister. Read more.
