FACT CHECK: Melanie Bassogog not 24-year-old daughter of footballer, Christian Bassogog

Claim: 24-year-old Cameroonian Model, Melania Bassogog is the daughter of 26-year-old Cameroon and Shanghai Shenhuafootballer, Christian Bassogog.

A Twitter user posted a picture of Melania Bassogog and that of Cameroonian footballer, Christian Bassogog, with the caption; “Meet Maleine BASSOGOG a 24-year-old model with the medal of her father Christian BASSOGOG aged 26“.

The tweet has since garnered over 3,000 retweets, 14.8k likes, 579 comments and 655 quote tweets. It has also been reproduced by several other Twitter accounts and shared on Facebook and other social media apps.

Verification: In verifying the claim, NewsWireNGR first checked the verified Instagram account of the Chinese Super League player to ascertain if both individuals were related.

There are several images of Bassogog and Maleine together. There is an image of the duo in wedding dresses posted on the 30th of June 2020 with the caption; ‘I love you my beautiful wife.’

There is also a picture of the couple that the player captioned; ‘Happy 6 months of marriage ?’, confirming that the couple tied the knot in the December of 2019.

A further search on google leads to a Youtube video posted over a year ago of the couple’s wedding.

Also, Cameroonian sports blog, Pavels-sportbiz, on December 30th, 2019 with pictures and a story that the couple tied the knot in Doula, Cameroon.

Verdict: The claim is False. Maleine is not the daughter to Christian Bassogog, but his wife since December of 2019.
