1. 2023: S-West APC govs divided over Tinubu, Osinbajo, Fayemi [Vanguard Newspaper]

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South-West zone are divided over the presidential ambitions of former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; and Ekiti State Governor, and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

While Fayemi is still consulting, three of the five governors from the zone are said to be with Tinubu, and one is undecided whether to back Tinubu or Osinbajo.

2. Lai, Aregbesola, Yari, Keyamo lose out, APC inaugurates state chairmen [Punch Newspaper]

Factions of the All Progressives Congress in several states that are loyal to some ministers and senators are set to lose out as the APC has perfected plans to inaugurate state chairmen loyal to the governors at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.

Some of the losers include the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo; and the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

3. “God rejects you, Father. You’re not a king” – Man disrupts Pope’s speech at the Vatican [NewsWireNGR]

A shouting man denouncing the Church disrupted an audience by Pope Francis at the Vatican Wednesday, before being escorted outside by police.

“The Church is not the way God wants it,” the man repeated in English, as he stood in the back of the audience hall holding his mask in his hand and gesticulating.

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigerians in the North East will, in the coming months, witness a change from the protracted insurgency to peace and development in their respective communities.

5. Crude Oil: OPEC daily basket price falls to $90.46 per barrel [NewsWireNGR]

The price of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) basket of 13 crude oil samples stood at $90.46 per barrel as at Tuesday, Feb. 1.

This is compared with $90.89 per barrel of the previous Monday, according to OPEC Secretariat calculations obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Abuja, as released by OPEC on Wednesday. Read more.
