1. Ohanaeze fumes, alleges injustice as Tinubu declares presidential bid [Punch Newspaper]

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo described the declaration of Tinubu to contest the Presidency in 2023 as against the rules of natural justice as unfortunate.

It regretted that the former Lagos State Governor had chosen to add to the crisis of Nigeria instead of joining hands with patriots to save the corporate existence of the country.

2. Devalue currency further, raise interest rates, IMF tells Nigeria, others [Punch Newspaper]

The International Monetary Fund has advised emerging economies including Nigeria to allow their currencies to depreciate in response to tighter funding conditions and an imminent policy tightening by the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States.

The Washington-based lender also counselled the Central Bank of Nigeria and the apex banks of emerging economies to raise their benchmark interest rate in preparation for the Fed policy tightening.

The Federal Government and Siemens Energy have identified over 200 power transmission and distribution projects for execution in all parts of the nation, under the Presidential Power Initiative, PPI.

This came as the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC Limited, disclosed it has been forced to shut down its 504 MW Alaoji Power Plant in Imo State following an attack on the gas pipeline of Total Energies EP Nigeria Limited.

4. BULLETS, BLOOD AND LOADS OF CASH (II): Tales of killings of on-duty law enforcement officers at Ondo, Ekiti banks [NewsWireNGR]

On 15 July 2021, a policeman and two others were viciously killed by a gang of armed robbers, numbering 15, at Ilara Mokin town in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria.

The robbers broke the bullet-proof door of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch with dynamite before gaining entrance into the hall. Read more.
