1. APC national convention: Uncertainty over February date as peace panel flops [Punch Newspaper]

The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress has shown no signs of abating even as the national reconciliation committee set up by the party to curb hostilities has failed to make headway three months after it was set up.

It was also learnt that with the plethora of cases in court, the APC feared that its national convention could be declared illegal if court cases instituted in several states were not withdrawn or concluded.

2. CBN forex policies may threaten economic growth in 2022 — Report [Punch Newspaper]

The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, an economic think tank, has said the “monetary and foreign exchange policy rigidities” of the Federal Government may disrupt the economic growth of the nation in 2022.

The Central Bank of Nigeria is responsible for monetary and forex policy in the country.

The centre made this known in its ‘2022 Economic Outlook’ report, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Thursday.

3. MC Oluomo eyeing seat of Oba of Oshodi, monarch family alleges [NewsWireNGR]

The Olushi Onigbesa royal family has alleged the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mr Musiliu Akinsanya (popularly known as MC Oluomo) is eyeing to become the Oba of Oshodi in Lagos.

According to the Head of the Olushi Onigbesa royal family, Kabiru Eyantan, said on Wednesday during a press briefing appealing for the intervention of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said; “The attention of the Olushi Onigbesa royal family of Oshodi Awori Kingdom has been drawn to the picture of Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo, Chairman, NURTW in Lagos State circulated on numerous social media platform where he was dressed in traditional kingly attire intended for an Oba in Yorubaland. 4. ELECTORAL ACT AMENDMENT BILL: Why we injected direct primary clause — GBAJA [Vanguard Newspaper]

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, yesterday, said the National Assembly inserted the direct primaries clause into the Electoral Act Amendment Bill to ensure that people participate in elections.

Gbajabiamila, who was not categorical on whether or not the lawmakers would override President Muhammadu’s Buhari veto of the bill on account of the direct primaries clause, however, assured Nigerians that the National Assembly will revisit the Electoral Act amended bill, and ensure that an an amended electoral is in place for future polls. 5. Lai Mohammed lists 100 achievements of Buhari’s administration in 2021 [NewsWireNGR]

Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has listed 100 achievements of the Buhari administration in 2021.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, Mohammed said despite challenges that came with 2021, the administration made progress in fighting insecurity and growing the economy. Read more.
