Hour to Buhari’s arrival in Borno, Boko Haram launches attack

Despite the scheduled visit of the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari to Borno state, and presumed high security in the state, suspected fighters of Boko Haram/ISWAP launched attacks.

NewsWireNGR gathered that the attacks occurred lesser than an hour before the arrival of the president and was about 15 kilometers away from Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

Earlier, NewsWireNGR reported that Buhari left Aso Villa, Abuja for Maiduguri to commission multiple projects completed by the state governor, Babagana Zulum.

A source, member of the civilian Joint Taskforce, who disclosed the development said injured civilians sustained various degrees of injuries in the explosions. 

The source added the injured have been rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, newsmen were restricted access to the scene of the incident.
