1. FG begins giving booster shots, US donates 2.5 million doses [Punch Newspaper]

The Federal Government will today (Friday) begin the administration of booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

The Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, stated this on Thursday in Abuja as the  Africa Centre for Disease Control, an agency of the African Union, kicked against the introduction of booster doses in African countries.

2. Ohanaeze plans lobby team for South-East 2023 Presidency bid [Punch Newspaper]

The pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Thursday said it would soon set up 2023 presidency lobby team that will reach out to other zones in the country.

The spokesman for the Ohanaeze, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, said this in an interview with The PUNCH, while reacting advice to the South-East by the pan-Northern socio-political organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum.

He said the South-East would soon start the process of reaching out to other parts of the country on the need to support the Igbo for the 2023 presidency.

3. Capital inflow drops by 29% as COVID-19 cases rise – CBN [Punch Newspaper]

Capital inflow into the country fell from $620m in July to $440m in August over the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Central Bank of Nigeria stated this in its monthly economic report for August titled, ‘Foreign capital inflow moderated in August 2021 due to weakening risk sentiments that followed the COVID-19 resurgence’.

4. Akande: Buhari promised to pick Tinubu as running mate in 2015, then reneged [ThisDay Newspaper]

Former Governor of Osun state and ex-interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, yesterday narrated how Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as he then was, the presidential candidate of the party at the time, promised to pick Bola Tinubu as his running mate in the 2015 election.

Chronicling the events that led to the eventual selection of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Akande, in his autobiography, “My Participations”, published by Gaskia Media Limited, disclosed how Buhari who was then under pressure to drop the former Lagos governor, later reneged on the agreement.

5. In reciprocal action, FG reduces Emirates flights to once weekly [ThisDay Newspaper]

In a move signalling reciprocity of action, Nigeria’s government, yesterday reduced Emirates flight to the country, both Lagos and Abuja, from daily to once weekly which would be only on Thursdays.

The action followed the decision of the government of the United Arabs Emirates (UAE) to cut Nigeria’s Air Peace flight operations to Sharjah to once a week.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced the decision of the government in a letter titled: “Withdrawal of Ministerial Approval of Emirates Airlines Winter Schedule, dated December 9, 2021 and addressed to the Country Manager, Emirates Airlines Nigeria.”
