Buhari expected in Lagos Thursday for Bisi Akande’s book launch

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected at the commercial hub of Nigeria, Lagos, Thursday, at the book launch of ‘My Participations’, the autobiography of Bisi Akande.

The president’s visit was announced in a statement by Tunde Rahman, media aide of Bola Tinubu. According to Rahman, Buhari is the special guest of honour at the event while the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is the chief host. The All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Ahmed Tinubu is the guest of honour.

Who is Bisi Akande?

Full name Chief Abdukareem Adebisi Bamdele Akande, “Bisi Akande”, was born 16 January 1939. He served as the governor of Osun State, Nigeria from 1999–2003, as a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) party. He was the first interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking in July 2006, Akande attacked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which he implied was not acting impartially. He defended the AD, which he said was stronger even than it had been in 1999. He called for a more decentralized, federal form of government.

Akande, a strong critic of the military had in 2009 claimed in the past, the military had looted the nation’s treasury and impoverished the people.
