Death toll hits 5 as gas explosion rocks store at Ladipo in Lagos

Tragedy struck around 8.42 am, at No. 21, Ojekunle Street at Ladipo, Mushin area of Lagos state on Tuesday as gas explosion rocks a store killing at least five persons.

NewsWireNGR gathered that a 10-year-old boy and a female adult were among the recovered body.

The recent development was disclosed by the Acting Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, Lagos State Territorial District, Ibrahim Farinloye.

According to Farinloye, the female adult identified as Mama Funmi was recovered dead while the ten years old survivor died on way to the hospital.

Three other adult male victims have been confirmed dead from the unfortunate event.

“Altogether, five persons were recovered dead including a 10 years old boy,” Farinloye updated.

Confirming the death of the three adult male victims, the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said; “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Gas Explosion at 21, Ojekunle Street, Ladipo, Mushin Lagos.

“The Gas incident which was reported at 08:42 hours Tuesday morning via the State emergency reporting platform was swiftly responded to by a combination of the State first and secondary responders.

“On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that it is an open space used for several activities including a beer parlour, mechanic workshop, spare parts sale and gas shop amongst others while housing a makeshift structure.

“Three male adults had been recovered as rescue and recovery operations continue in an environment isolated from causing any further secondary incident.

“Preliminary investigations to establish the fact of the incident continue and further discovery will be made public.”
