‘They defect late in the game’: Saraki reveals ‘some bigwigs’ from APC will defect to PDP soon

Former governor of Kwara state, Bukola Saraki, has revealed some prominent members of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), will soon defect to the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), soon.

The ex-Senate president who spoke during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday said a former governor was set to join the PDP this week.

According to Saraki, Nigerians will “begin to see some defections from the ruling party” soon, adding that “leaders in the ruling parties don’t defect early, they defect late in the game”.

“I don’t think that we [PDP] are haemorrhaging. If you remember, I said a couple of times that there were certain governors that we knew that they were going to leave, and they’ve left. So we are not surprised,” the former president of the senate said.

“We’ve got some bigwigs that are coming to the party. This week, there’s a former governor that’ll join the party. We’ve had a couple who have joined.

“Look, we all know that leaders in the ruling parties don’t defect early. They defect late in the game. So, keep watching. Nigerians will not be surprised when you begin to see some defections from the ruling party.”

Reacting to the defection of PDP governors – Ben Ayade of Cross River, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara – Saraki said the party was not shocked.

Meanwhile, NewsWireNGR had reported that some state officials and members of the PDP in Yobe defected to APC.

Those who joined the APC included the state Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Usman Amale, and the Assistant Secretary, Malam Ahmadu Biriri.
