The Nigerian federal government, eNaira, has officially launched and its applications are available for download on Google Play Store and Apple store.

NewsWireNGR recalls the launch of the first digital currency in the country was earlier scheduled for October 1, but was postponed.

The apex bank spokesperson, Osita Nwanibosi, had claimed the postponement was necessary due to other key activities lined up to commemorate the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary.

President Muhammadu Buhari while launching the digital currency, at the State House, Abuja, on Monday, commended the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, for his efforts towards ensuring a more efficient payment system in the country.

Meanwhile, the CBN governor in his address announced a new financial instrument titled “The 100 for 100 PPP – Policy on Production and Productivity,” to reduce the nation’s overdependence on imports.

According to the governor, the instrument, “will be anchored in our Development Finance Department under my direct supervision.

“Under this policy the CBN will advertise, screen, scrutinize and financially support 100 targeted private sector companies in 100 days, beginning from 01 November 2021, and rolling over every 100 days with new set of 100 companies, whose names will be published in National Dailies for Nigerians to verify and confirm.

“The purpose of this instrument is to take further steps to reverse our over reliance on imports.”

However, NewsWireNGR observed the there were two eNaira apps launched ? eNaira Speed Wallet and eNaira Speed Merchant Wallet.

The eNaira Speed Wallet app at the time of filing this report had below average (2.3 stars) review rating on Google Playstore. There were lots of complaints from users while mostly rating it 1 star.

A further check by NewsWireNGR revealed most of the frustrated users were having issues with linking their email to the app; a major requirement to be granted access. Representatives of the CBN were however noticed to be responding to users complaints in the comment section of the review.

The eNaira Speed Merchant Wallet however had a better rating of 3.9 stars.
