Nigerian youths in their numbers have again trooped out to protest police brutality and bad governance a year after a similar protest resulted in shootings at Lekki tollgate, an action the Nigerian government has continually disputed.
On Tuesday, the Lagos state commissioner of police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, threatened any protesters found on the streets on Wednesday, October 20, will be arrested.
“In view of the conflicting interest between the pro and anti- EndSARS anniversary groups and threat to cause mayhem, the Command once again warns both groups against any form of street protest between now and 20th October 2021 and beyond,” he warned.
Some defiant youths including celebrities like Falz and Mr Macaroni trooped out to Lekki tollgate. However, some of them were arrested by the police as earlier threatened.
In a video, before the arrest of an #EndSARS protester, a police officer was heard shouting “arrest the idiot!”.
Another protester identified as Okechukwu Peter was also arrested with his phone ceased. The protester was heard shouting “remember those that were killed”.
