Gunmen kidnap students in Lafia, demands N25m ransom

Some students of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa state were reportedly abducted by gunmen Saturday night.

Although there are varying reports of the number of students kidnapped, the gunmen reportedly stormed Mararaba Akunza community area of the University in the Lafia Local Government Area of the State in their large number and shooting sporadically into the air between 7 pm and 8 pm.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the gunmen had already contacted the family of the victims demanding N25 million ransom.

The source said: “The gunmen came in their large number and started shooting sporadically into the air, scaring residents of Mararaba Akunza community, before abducting four students.

“It was raining heavily on Saturday night when the suspected kidnappers came in with their AK 47 riffles and carried out their operation successfully that lasted for several hours and succeeded in kidnapping some students, but no one knows whether they are students of Federal University of Lafia.”
