The governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has revealed why his party, the All Progressives Congress lost his polling unit to the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

NewsWireNGR recalls the PDP candidate for chairmanship defeated Nasir el-Rufai’s party, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate by a vote of 86 to 62 at Ungwan Sarkin Polling Unit 001.

Likewise, the councillorship candidate defeated the APC candidate with a vote of 100 to 53.

According to el-Rufai, the loss showed APC did not manipulate the e-voting machines during the just concluded local government election in the state.

The governor spoke during a program on Channels Television, Sunrise Daily on Monday, said the election results show that people are finally making electoral choices based on the performance of their elected officials.

El-Rufai said: “Those that reported that the machines were programmed were ashamed when it was reported that APC lost in my polling unit. People were laughing that I lost my polling unit, but it is democracy that won.

“I’m not on the ballot, so it is not a referendum on me, it is a referendum on the councillor and the performance of the chairman of the local council.

“The loss of my polling unit shows that we did not program these machines; we did not influence our independent electoral commission, and the whole thing has worked very well.”
