Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has appealed to the people of the state to intensify prayers for God’s intervention to end banditry in the state.

Matawalle made the call during a special prayer session organised by the Ulamau Consultative Committee (UCC) which was held all over the state.

The governor who attended the prayer at the Gusau Central Mosque said it has become imperative for the citizens to complement the government and security operatives’ efforts in tackling the menace in the state.

”Prayer is the only that can solve any calamity on the people. We must seek Allah’s forgiveness.

According to reports, the special prayer session was observed in all the Juma’at mosques in the state.

NewsWireNGR recalls the governor last year October had called on residents to commence one-week of extensive prayers to seek God’s intervention to end armed banditry and other crimes in the state.

He had made the call when 17 emirs in the state came to condole with him over the death of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha.

The governor in June 2021, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“He said that there is need for persistent prayers in order to seek God’s divine intervention.”

NewsWireNGR had earlier reported that 73 students of Government Day Secondary school, Kaya in Maradun LGA of the state were abducted by notorious bandits on Wednesday.

Confirming the development, SP Mohammed Shehu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state said; “The abduction followed the invasion of the school by a large number of armed bandits that occurred today at exactly 1122hrs”.
