Man risks 5-year imprisonment for destroying NTA power cable

A man identified as Paul Adamu risked 5-year imprisonment for destroying an NTA power cable.

Adamu, a 24-year-old mechanic was sentenced to five months of community service by a Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna state on Tuesday.

Magistrate Mary Adams held that the convict will have five years imprisonment or pay N150, 000 as fine, if he defaults in his community service for a day.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)  charged Adamu with mischief, criminal trespass and theft.

The state counsel from the Justice Ministry, Alheri Daudu, told the court that the matter was reported to the NSCDC office on August 19.

Daudu said the defendant entered, trespassed into the NTA Kafanchan premises and destroyed the cable linking the transformer to the generator.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 317, 275 and 327 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
