BREAKING: Gunmen ambush 18-seater buses in Jos, kill many

There was palpable fear in Jos, Plateau state capital on Saturday as gunmen ambushed a group of five 18-seater buses killing about 30 travellers.

The attack according to report occurred around 10 am at Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

Witnesses said the travellers, numbering about 80, ran helter-skelter into the bush as the attackers descended on them.

According to one of the victims identified as Muhammad Ibrahim, they were all returning from Bauchi State where they attended an event to commemorate the Islamic New Year.

The Islamic new year event according to him was organised by a renowned cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, at a mosque in Bauchi State.

The spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Gabriel Ogaba, confirmed the development.

He said, “Yes, there was unrest at Rukuba Road of Jos North LGA. Security personnel have been deployed to the area and have taken charge.

“At the moment the area is calm and residents are going about their lawful businesses. Details about what happened will be communicated shortly.”
