Five ‘Buhari Must Go’ protesters arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) have finally regained their freedom.

Their release was announced by their lawyer, Tope Temokun, in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the protesters who have among them a blind saxophonist were released in Abuja on Tuesday.

“On 3rd of August,” Temokun said, “the DSS bowed to the fireworks from the people of Nigeria and released the DUNAMIS 5.”

“On behalf of these courageous young men, who will now go down in history… who all just spent 30 days in the DSS prison, for wearing Buhari Must Go T-shirts, I thank Nigerians for the outcry,” he added.

The protesters, Ben Manasseh, Anene Udoka, Henry Nwodo, Samuel Larry and Samuel Gabriel (the saxophonist), were arrested by the secret police for wearing T-shirts with ‘Buhari-Must-Go’ inscription to the Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja about a month ago.

The church in a statement however denied reports that the youths were arrested for their branded T-shirts.

A Federal High Court in Abuja ordered their release on July 26 but the SSS refused and instead rushed to a chief magistrate’s court in Mpape, Abuja, on July 28, to arraign them on charges of disturbance of peace.
