‘Get married or leave in 30 days’: Jigawa Local Government Chairman tells sex workers

A local government council area in Jigawa State, Gwaram has given sex workers in the community a 30-day ultimatum to get married or vacate the community.  

Sex workers who are indigenes of the community would have their wedding sponsored by the local government if they are willing to settle with a partner.  

While Sex workers not indigenous to the area will be repatriated to their states.

The Chairman of Gwaram, Zaharadden Abubakar gave the directive when he met with a delegation of Sara community, a popular weekly market in the local government, Abubakar over the weekend.

He said the “council is ready to take care of the wedding responsibilities of indigenous sex workers that are ready to give up the trade.” 

He also ordered all the commercial sex workers operating in the area to present names of their clients to the local government authority before the expiration of the dateline. And that clubs and beer parlours in the community are closed. 

These moves, the Chairman claimed, are aimed at tackling immorality in the local government.
