Popular online comedian, Adebola Adebayo, “a.ka. Mr Macaroni”, on Saturday announced his gift of N500,000 to the family of Jumoke Oyeleke, a lady allegedly killed by gunshots fired by the Lagos Police Command during the Yoruba Nation Rally conducted a few weeks ago.

NewsWireNGR had reported that Jumoke was killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by police in their bid to disperse the secession agitators. At the first report, the lady was reported to be 14-year-old until her mother came out to set the record straight that she is 25 years old.

The Lagos state police command has debunked the report that a stray bullet fired by its officer killed Jumoke.

According to a statement released by its spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, “The Command did not fire a single live bullet at Ojota rally. The said corpse was found wrapped and abandoned at a distance, far from Ojota venue of the rally, behind MRS Filling Station, inward Maryland, on the other side of the venue, with dried blood stains suggesting that the corpse is not fresh.  After a close look at the corpse, a wound suspectedly sustained from a sharp object was seen on it”.

Announcing his donation to the family, Mr Macaroni tweeted; “I visited the family of the late Jumoke Oyeleke; the 25yrs old that was killed during the Yoruba Nation Rally. They need all the support they can get right now. I have donated N500,000 today and I plead with all those who can to kindly support the family.”

He also shared a fundraising link and account details for anyone interested in donating to the family.

The comedian then shared a fundraising link for the family, calling on all members of the public to donate.

According to him, “As of the time of my visit, Neither the government nor police force had taken responsibility. The family despite their state of mourning have been told to bear all responsibilities.. this is heartbreaking. Very very.

“Also important to note is that Jumoke (The Deceased) was the breadwinner of the house. She was a sales attendant at a beverage store and she used the little she made to sustain her mother and 3 siblings. As it is, the family have nothing”.

He also commended a lady, Dabira, who had gone earlier to see the family of the deceased.

“Dabira (the lady in the picture above) a true comrade and fighter had gone earlier to see the family when the unfortunate incident happened and she discovered their living condition. The picture in the main tweet [the one we used as the picture for this story] is their family house where the mother is under watch”.

Different reactions have however greeted the post with someone calling for the comedian to contest for the Nigerian presidency seat.
