Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has revealed he would only support an aspirant who shares his vision and drive to champion the growth of Rivers state to succeed him come 2023.

The governor during the inauguration of the official residence of Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt, also boasted that no governorship aspirant desirous of victory can afford to ignore his influence over who will win.

He further vowed to ensure that desperado aspirants inducing disharmony within Rivers ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not become governor.

Governor Wike said, “I cannot support anybody who cannot move Rivers State forward. I will support those who mean well for this state and have the heart to continue to support the party.”

“I am a governor that comes from the most populated electable voters. There is nobody in this State who wants to be governor that will not look for my local government.

“Our local government cannot be underrated. Don’t hate me too much. Let people know we must all work together to move Rivers state forward.”

Clarifying perceived media misrepresentation of his recent anger against some Rivers PDP national assembly members, Wike noted, “I never said that Assembly people are plotting against me. I never said so. I said some Assembly people, I know what they’re doing.

“There’s a difference between the National Assembly and some members of the National Assembly. There is a difference between the State Assembly and some members of the State Assembly.

“Those of you writing in the newspaper, I never said National Assembly. Some people don’t understand that simple grammar.”

On the justification for an official residence for Rivers speaker, Wike said, “Today, you have an Assembly that has a Speaker’s official residence. We are building 32 number of 4 bedroom flats for the Assembly members which will be commissioned this year. We have paid 70 per cent of the money.”

He dismissed a report alleging of Rivers Government indebtedness to commercial banks, asserting that the state owes no bank with a challenge to anybody with any contrary opinion to show proof.

Former Deputy Speaker of the House who performed the inauguration of the Speaker’s house said, “This is another plus for you (Wike) and your government.

“You keep making us proud. Our prayer is that you move from this level to a higher level. Indeed, Nigeria needs what you’re doing in Rivers.

“You have transformed Rivers to the level that it has become the envy of the people of this country. We stand tall in the comity of states when issues concerning the nation is being discussed.

“Today, in PDP, nationally, nobody can take Rivers state for granted. In the politics of Nigeria, nobody can take Rivers state for granted.”
