Veteran Kannywood actress, Zainab Booth, dies aged 61

It was a sad Friday for the Kannywood industry as one of its best, Zainab Booth, was reported dead.
The 61-year-old actress was popular for her motherly roles in Hausa movies. According to her son, Umar Booth, she died in Kano after a brief illness.
Speaking to BBC on her death, Umar Booth was quoted; “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May God bless our mother Hajiya Zainab Booth who passed away after a long illness.
“She passed away on Thursday night at about 9 pm, her funeral will be held today, Friday, if God permit us”.
“She died leaving four children, two sons, and two daughters. I am Umar, then Amude and Maryam and Sadiya, and two grandchildren,”
Her daughter, Maryam Booth, in a post on social media revealed the deceased suffered a stroke that led to a brain tumor.

Maryam had in an interview with a Nigerian media in 2020 said; “I grew up seeing my mother acting and I quickly and quietly followed suit,”
Ali Nuhu, her son, also announced the death via an Instagram post. In his post, Nuhu wrote; “With the deepest heart, I announced the demised of Hajiya Zainab Booth. The Jana’iza prayers will hold on Friday at her residence, opposite Premiere Hospital in the morning,”
Her nephew, Ramadan Booth, also prayed for Allah’s mercy on his late aunty.
Kannywood is the Hausa-language cinema based in Kano. It is part of the Nigeria movie industry, Nollywood.
