Niger State to hang convicted kidnappers and bandits

The Niger State House of Assembly has passed a law, which recommends that convicted kidnappers and bandits must be sentenced to death by hanging.

The law according to the lawmakers would also be applicable to any informant caught to aiding the activities in the state.

The State House of Assembly during its Tuesday plenary passed the Bill for an Act to amend the Kidnapping and Cattle Rustling (Special Provision) Law 2021 into law.

Criminal gangs have targeted schools in remote areas of the state where pupils live in dormitories with little security protection, before hauling their victims into nearby forests to negotiate ransoms.

Recall that in May, scores of children were kidnapped in Tegina, Niger State, from a Muslim koranic school.
