Just In: ASUU appoints new President

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has elected Prof. Victor Emmanuel Osodeke of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State as its new president.

This development follows the termination of its past president, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi’s four-year tenure on Saturday.

Osodeke was elected early Sunday morning during a three-day conference of the union which held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

A new executive council was also elected to take over leadership of the union for two years after which they may be reelected.

Professor Chris Piwuna, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine, University of Jos was also elected as the Vice President.

While the new President was former Vice President to Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, outgone President, Piwuna, before his election, was the Internal Auditor of ASUU and its former Chairman in UNIJOS.

Others are Prof. Siji Sowande (Treasurer); Prof. Ade Adejumo (Financial Secretary); Dr. Austen Sado (Investment Secretary); Dr. Adamu Babayo (Internal Auditor) and Dr Stella-Maris Okey (Welfare Secretary).
