Gunmen are currently attacking the Orji Divisional Police Station in Imo State – the armed men stormed the station some minutes after 12pm on Tuesday.
Details of the attack are still sketchy but residents tell NewsWireNGR, that, there is heavy shooting in the area. The incident happened hours after gunmen attacked Iwollo Oghe Police station in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Some policemen were reportedly killed in the attack while the station was razed and some vehicles were also burnt down.
There have recently been several attacks on police stations, especially in southeastern Nigeria, where scores of police officers have lost their lives in recent months.
Southern Nigeria occasionally faces such attacks, which have been mainly carried out by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a movement that seeks to carve out a separate homeland for the country’s ethnic Igbo population.
