Crowds of protesters have blocked the Gauraka Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the Tarfa Local Government Area of Niger State protesting the incessant kidnappings, banditry and general insecurity in the area.

The protesters barricaded the busy road with bonfire, stones and wood, while demanding that government address the issue of insecurity in the area.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the residents complain that bandits have been picking people up from house to house without any intervention by the security agents in the area.

Despite the presence of the military barracks – Zuma Barracks– in the area the residents said they were helpless and cannot sleep well.

Monday’s protest reportedly started at about 6am and is already causing heavy traffic congestion.
