Breaking: Lagos on alert, deploys mobile policemen in correctional centres

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has deployed additional mobile policemen in the correctional centres in the state.

The decision follows an attack on the Owerri Correctional Centre in Imo State where over 1,884 inmates were set free by gunmen on Monday.

The commissioner of Police made the disclosure after he received the new Controller of Correctional Service, Lagos, Comp Francis Adebisi, and his entourage, at the Police Command headquarters, Ikeja the state capital.

A brief detail of the meeting according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday reads in parts, “It’s in furtherance of the CPs plans to forestall attacks.”

He continued, “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu presently playing a host to the new Controller of Correctional Service, Lagos, Comp Francis Adebisi, and his entourage, at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja GRA.

According to him, the CP said, “I have deployed additional mobile policemen to the correctional centres in Lagos State.”

Others at the meeting include the Deputy Commissioners of Police, Operations, Administration and State CID, Panti respectively, the fourteen Area Commanders, Police Mobile Force Commanders,  Commanders of Rapid Response Squad and Taskforce, Commanders of the Special Squad and Strike Team and the State Intelligence Bureau of the command.

Adejobi added that the Commissioner of Police engaged the officers in an interactive session to assess and brainstorm on having better security structures in the state and to prevent any attacks on police formations, correctional centre and vulnerable places within Lagos State.

“The meeting agreed on many strategies to be adopted including robust intelligence gathering, surveillance, sectorising the state for easy policing, constant patrol and deployment of personnel to strategic places and multi-agency collaboration amongst others.

“The police boss gave clear directives to the full implementation and enforcement of the strategies adopted to achieve the goals of effective security of the state generally,” the statement added.

Also, as part of the plans to forestall any form of attacks in the state, the Commissioner of Police met with the Controller of Correctional Service Lagos State, Mr Francis Adebisi, in his Ikeja office.

The Commissioner of Police, while deliberating on securing the major Correctional Centres in Lagos State, promised the Controller to sustain the deployment of police mobile men to the Correctional Centres in the state. C

He also promised to partner with the Correctional Service and other stakeholders to improve the Criminal Justice System in Lagos State.

The Controller of Correctional Service, Mr Francis Adebisi in response commended the efforts of the Commissioner of Police on providing adequate security for all and sundry and promoting sustainable synergy amongst security agencies in the state.
